A systematic review on previous research of radio frequency identification systems in supply chain

Abstract

Considering the prevalence of information systems and technological advancements in the world, these systems have different functions and applications in various dimensions. Accordingly, industries such as warehousing, transportation, logistics and supply chain management are benefited from state-of-the-art technologies. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems which is used for identifying and tracking different goods, is one these technologies. In this research, first, RFID and its function is introduced. The goal of this paper is reviewing the application of RFID in logistics and supply chains from 1989 to 2020 in which 1.5% of articles are from 1989 to 2000, 5% from 2000 to 2005, 21% from 2005 to 2010, 9% from 2010 to 2015 and 64% from 2015 to 2020. Articles are classified based on their publication date and it is found that RFID are widely used in logistics and supply chains especially from 2018 to 2020. Finally, by examining solution methods, less utilized solution methods are presented which could be a direction for future research.
