Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of designing and validating the model of human resources development in order to realize the sustainability of the supply chain in the shipping industry. In order to achieve the goal, a mixed exploratory research design (qualitative-quantitative) was used. The community of participants in the qualitative section includes managers with experience in the shipping industry, who were selected by purposive sampling and reached theoretical saturation with 16 interviews. The statistical population of the quantitative part also includes managers and experts of the shipping industry, and the sample size was estimated to be 131 people using the effect size method and the power of Cohen's test. Sampling was done by simple random method so that all members of the community have an equal chance to be selected. A semi-structured interview and a researcher-made questionnaire were used to collect data. The constructs of the research model were identified by thematic analysis method in Maxqda 20 software and the final model was validated by partial least squares method in Smart PLS 3 software. The findings of the research showed that human resource development has an effect on human resource empowerment, and empowerment leads to customer orientation and human performance management by influencing human resource satisfaction, human resource participation, job motivation, and human resource commitment. These factors, in turn, affect the sustainability strategy and sustainability of suppliers. In the continuation of economic performance, social performance and environmental performance are guaranteed and this ultimately leads to organizational sustainability.
