The food supply chain, as one of the key production sectors, has a close relationship with human health. Therefore, the implementation of tracing technologies to monitor the product at all stages is very important. Various factors are involved in the implementation of tracing in the food supply chain. The aim of this research is to provide a causal model to analyze these factors. At first through a literature review, the most important factors related to the implementation of traceability were extracted, and their importance in the food supply chain was determined by experts using the fuzzy Delphi. Finally, the modeling and analysis of factors were carried out using the fuzzy DEMATEL. According to the findings, the level of realization of technological traceability capabilities in the supply chain and the level of access to modern technologies are the most influential factors, while the willingness of supply chain members to trace, the profitability level of the supply chain, and the product quality level are the most affected factors. Changes in product quality level affect consumer perception, and increasing consumer awareness and the level of legal and regulatory requirements increase companies’ willingness to prove the quality level of their products by implementing traceability. In this regard, the informational integration of members in utilizing modern technologies for effective product traceability is a quality assurance strategy that leads to consumer satisfaction, profitability, and the reputation of the supply chain.
