Long-term storage (conservation) of defense items, as one of the vital issues in military asset management, plays a key role in the defense readiness of the armed forces and reducing the overall costs of equipment maintenance. In peacetime, with the reduction of military activities, many defense equipment changes to reserve (storage) mode and is reused in operational use in war or emergency situations. There are various methods for conserving defense items, so maintenance management must select methods for conserving reserve equipment that, while maintaining the equipment's functional capabilities and reducing overall maintenance costs, allow for rapid conversion from reserve to operational status for this equipment in the event of critical conditions. The purpose of this article is to help senior decision-makers in military equipment maintenance management make optimal decisions in the field of reserve equipment conservation . For this purpose, and considering constraints such as allocated budget and the capacity of centers' conservation operations, a nonlinear dual-objective mathematical model is presented. This mathematical model will determine how much of each type of equipment should be preserved and by what method, so as to maximize the readiness of the equipment while minimizing overall maintenance costs. Implementing the proposed model with the help of data available at one of the country's military conservation centers reflects an increase in the readiness of preserved equipment and a significant reduction in overall maintenance costs throughout the equipment's life cycle.
